Business Development Manager
Working for a Director of business development within large marketing departments, the business development manager is responsible for such duties as developing and sustaining relationships with prospective clients and with business referrals, researching potential business opportunities and strategizing to achieve maximum profit sales. These are only but a few of the responsibilities faced by a business development manager, as a highly pressurized and time-consuming position, dedication to what you do, motivation within the workplace and a willingness to learn something new each day are essential characteristics of anyone who wishes to fulfil a position as such.
As a business development manager your task would be to expand the business's profits as far as possible and to identify new ways of generating a greater annual profit. Means by which this may be achieved may include identifying new potential markets, attracting new clients and researching new business opportunities. A business development manager's duties include; developing strategic marketing plans, developing new sales strategies, negotiating with prospective clients and having presentations to market new business opportunities to potential customers.
As a business development manager working within large organizations you may be expected to travel regularly, this may include domestically and/or internationally. You would work with large marketing departments, sales departments and be required to do a certain amount of report writing based on your achievements and what duties you have fulfilled. Your job description may not necessarily just refer to a business development manager; you may also be referred to as an economist or a business planner. In order to become a business development manager you would possibly be required to have a relevant degree in accounting or business (although this is not always a requirement); you would also need to be a strong and organized person with a very structured lifestyle. As a business development manager, you will also need to be excellent at negotiating, be aware of all changes happening within the economy and government policies and have a large amount of sales experience.
As a business development manager you can expect to earn a salary of approximately $67, 000, 00 entry level and work your way up to a salary of approximately $110, 000, 00 per annum. Positions are available for business development managers in various sectors such as secondary schools and human resource departments. Business development managers' are hired accordingly to how motivated they are, how many years of experience they have and how much of a team player he or she is. As a business development manager you will be respected by others and therefore you need to fulfil the position as such that you earn your respect and work hard at achieving the best, thereby allowing the company you work for to reach their full potential.
