The Consultant marketing strategy developed by Andrew Neitlich to reach Top Decision Makers is based on his personal experience and it works:
Consultant Marketing Strategy One: Become the “go-to” professional in your speciality
- Develop a comprehensive message that gives gives your services the “edge”.
Focus on how you can solve the clients problems and back it up with facts, data and case studies.
- Get visible to Decision makers by using interesting and valuable information.
- Get visible to decision makers by taking leadership roles in trade associations, industry groups, charity and community organizations, and other places where desired clients are likely to congregate.
- Follow up with potential clients.
- Ask for referrals from current clients and other people in your sphere of influence. Follow up these leads in order to continuously build your network.
- People must rave about you as a professional, thus give the clients exceptional service and value.
- Make sure that you understand the needs of your current clients in order to provide them with additional solutions.
Consultant Marketing Strategy Two: Focus on specific niche market(s):
Decide on a specific target group. Don’t try to be the professional that is “all things to all people”. This way you can reach top decision makers by implementing the following:
- Develop a marketing message that will connect to the people in that specific field.
- Get involved in areas where these people would congregate.
- Get a referral “network” going with other complementary professionals whom also target that field.
- Create informational pieces that focus on the problems the decision makers in that specific field have to face.
- Do research that will interest the executives in that specific field.
- Get publicity in printed materials that targets your niche.
- When you have succeeded in one particular field you can start working on other fields.
Consultant Marketing Strategy Three: Pursue your “Target Prospect” list.
- Choose a manageable (eg 100) amount of potential clients with whom you really would love to work.
- Develop a series of letters and correspondence.
- Send these potential clients a series of correspondence which would in turn prepare them on when to expect a “visit” from you.
- Follow up with a phone call or a visit.
- Don’t be a pest, but make sure to follow up by sending more correspondence every 21 days or so.
- After building a relationship with these potential clients in such way, some will eventually be willing to meet with you.
- Always have a fixed number of potential client, thus update your list when a potential client becomes a client.
- Continue your visibility campaign in your target market.
