Lawyer Marketing
Marketing strategies vary for the type of business a person has, the size of the business and what your goals are. Unfortunately, marketing also differs for various professions, a real estate agent does not attract clients the same way a doctor would, and using the same token, lawyer marketing is done differently than any other profession. Many people ask, ‘lawyer marketing? What is it?’ Well, what I can tell you is that it is not average marketing, in fact, older methods of marketing are almost completely ineffective for a lawyer who wants to promote his firm.
Lawyer marketing mistakes include relying on referrals for business. Many lawyers rely on good service to get them referred, although this may happen with one or two clients, referrals are a poor form for generating a stable income. Moreover, persons whom are referring play the intermediary between the business and potential clients, exactly what is not needed. A second lawyer-marketing mistake is that the idea for promotions, advertisements and radio interviews is often over-estimated. Just because somebody thinks you have a great law firm and is convinced of your quality of service does not mean that they intend on giving you their business. Of course, lawyers promoting their firm via advertisements are great ways to reach out to the broader community but they are most certainly not ways to generate a sole income.
Effective lawyer marketing involves a marketing strategy and message, one that is concise and clear, clients should want to come to you. In addition, once having decided on the amount you charge for your services it should remain constant for at least twelve months. Many lawyers alter their prices so rapidly and regularly that a client may receive two different quotes for the same queried case. Consistency is a sign of credibility and of stability in your firm.
Lawyer marketing entails reaching your target audience without them having to search for you. The first step in this process is to know the ‘who’ that you want to reach. Knowing your target audience will allow you to concentrate on their areas of interest, for example, choosing appropriate newspapers for advertisements, advertisements in nearby shopping centers etc. Lawyer marketing can cost a lot of money, so why not rather spend the money on the place of interest rather than wasting it where you will not gain clients. As a lawyer, for your marketing to work effectively you need to be credible, respectable and needed. If you are not on the top of your game at all times then you are risking reaching your firm’s full potential. Always make sure that you are needed, no matter what. Lawyer marketing is not about getting the most clients; it is about getting the most satisfied clients who want to come back to you.
